A couple of months ago, I was nominated for the “One Lovely Blog Award” by Kate Loveton, one damned fine writer who blogs regularly here on WordPress. If you haven’t had the treat of reading one of her many eclectic tales, I urge you to pay her a visit. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you, Kate, for the nomination and your patience.
As with most awards, there are a few rules, which are as follows:
1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Share seven things about yourself.
3. Nominate up to fifteen bloggers you admire.
4. Let your nominees know you have nominated them.
Okay, here we go…
Once again, thank you, Kate, you lovely blogger, you. :D
Seven things about me:
1. If I could meet anyone in the entire universe it would be Stephen King. From the moment I picked up Carrie and started reading, I was hooked. He is my favorite author and my hero. I would love to meet him for coffee (or something a bit stronger) pick his brilliant/creepy mind…maybe beg him to read my manuscript. :)
2. My favorite television program on the air right now is The Walking Dead, but if I were to pick what I consider to be the greatest television series of all time, it would be Breaking Bad. Dark, quirky/weird, bloody, suspenseful tales mesmerize me. I wonder if that says something about me? Humm…something to think about.
3. I love the smell of books, particularly old books. When I go into a used book store, the odor that permeates the building (probably caused by mold and other things I don’t wish to know about) is more pleasing to my senses than that of a sweet rose.
4. I love to fish, though I haven’t been in years. My first husband, our son and I spent many pleasant hours in years past in a small aluminum boat equipped with a trolling motor, puttering up and down the length of Lee Creek (which happens to be as wide as a lot of rivers). We used both live and artificial bait, depending on what sort of fish we were attempting to catch at the time. This old lady got sunburned more times than she can count, but she had a lovely time. Someday, when both of our lives slow down, my son and I intend to do a little fishing together again. Though my first husband is long gone from this world, I’m sure he’ll be there with us in spirit. I hope so; that man would’ve rather fished than eaten when he was hungry.
5. I got pregnant when I was sixteen, married my first husband shortly thereafter, and had my only child, a son, when I was barely seventeen. Though life was hard for quite a few years, struggling to make ends meet, I wouldn’t go back and change a thing. Because of my first husband’s and my raging hormones, we made a mistake–no, I can’t call my son’s birth a mistake because how can a mistake present you with the greatest gift you’ve ever received?
6. I love the beach. I love the sun and the sand and the crashing waves. I even love the gray days of rain and storms that turn the water from sparkling blue to gunmetal gray. Someday, I hope to make a permanent home on a beach somewhere. Anywhere. Plunk me down where I can see and hear the ocean every day of my life and I’ll be a happy woman.
7. I want a cook/housekeeper/groundskeeper and an unlimited supply of money, and not have a day job. (I know, I’m dreaming.) Then, I could just write. Maybe I need to take a nice long stroll along a beach and look for a magic lantern to rub. :)
